Movie Night Coloring Page

Movie nights are supposed to be relaxing, but this animal audience seems to have its own ideas.

This free Movie Night coloring page shows a busy theater filled with cozy animal characters. Some are watching the movie closely while others are eating popcorn, sipping drinks or talking to the animal sitting next to them. One nervous hedgehog is covering its eyes during a scary scene while a small dragon is much more interested in looking at a phone.

There is plenty happening in the picture, but the design still uses bold lines and open spaces so it is enjoyable to color without feeling overwhelming.

Movie Night Coloring Page

A Cozy Animal Movie Theater

I wanted this coloring page to feel like a complete movie theater scene instead of only showing a television and a bowl of popcorn. The animals are sitting in rows of cushioned theater seats with snacks and drinks beside them.

In the front row, a large bear wears oversized 3D glasses and holds a full bucket of popcorn and looks completely focused on the movie.

Nearby, the little dragon is looking down at a phone instead of paying attention. That small detail makes me laugh because there always seems to be one person checking a screen during a movie.

Other audience members include a rabbit, fox, raccoon, cat, dog, hedgehog and squirrel. Each character is doing something slightly different, giving you plenty of small scenes to notice while you color.

Do Not Forget the Tiger Usher

At the back of the theater, a tiger usher stands near the exit doors holding a flashlight. The tiger has a slightly more serious expression than the animals in the audience, but still fits the soft and cozy style of the page.

The exit doors, theater curtains, wall lights and “Quiet Please” sign help make the setting easy to recognize. These background elements also give you more areas to color without adding too many tiny details.

You could give the theater a classic red and gold color scheme or create something completely different. Try purple curtains, blue seats and bright neon signs for a more playful movie theater.

Bold and Easy to Color

This page was designed with bold, clean outlines and closed shapes. Large areas such as the seats, curtains, clothing and popcorn buckets are easy to fill with markers, crayons or colored pencils.

Some of my favorite parts to color would be:

  • The tiger usher’s striped fur and uniform
  • The bear’s hoodie and 3D glasses
  • The fox’s fluffy face and sweater
  • The dragon’s wings, horns and phone
  • The different popcorn containers and drink cups
  • The theater curtains and cushioned seats

You can keep the animals realistic or use imaginative colors. The bear could be brown, black or even blue. The dragon could be green with orange wings or pink with purple horns. There are no rules during this movie night.

Turn It Into a Coloring Challenge

This page also works well for a simple coloring challenge. Choose a limited palette of five or six colors and try to use those colors throughout the entire theater.

You could also color each row differently. Make the front row warm and cozy with reds, oranges and yellows. Use cooler blues, greens and purples for the row behind it. Then give the theater background its own matching color scheme.

Another idea is to create your own movie story while you color. What are the animals watching? Why is the hedgehog scared? Is the dragon texting someone about the movie or playing a game instead?

Small storytelling details can make the page even more fun.
